Zahir Shah Amin was born in 1988 in Mazar-e-Sharif, the son of one of Afghanistan's most renowned tile-makers. He joined the staff of the Turquoise Mountain Institute in 2007 as part of its initial tile-making programme, and is now its head teacher. The director of his own business, Zahir Shah has made tiles for a range of prestigious projects from an exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, to the tile front of the Afghan National Museum.
