Kites from Kabul

Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood, London
July 2015 - January 2016

In the historic city of Kabul, the spring sunshine brings kite flyers out in their hundreds, and brightly coloured kites can be seen dotting the skyline. In 2015, Turquoise Mountain brought this spectacle to the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood in London.

Kites From Kabul featured a display of colourful kites made by the children of Murad Khani, Kabul's Old City, and brought their stories to a London audience. Through photography, visitors were introduced to the daily lives of Murad Khani's residents, and saw firsthand the importance of the kite flying tradition to the cultural life of this historic area.
