Asir Women’s Collective
"Handicrafts are creative products, our livelihoods, and human dignity" Fatima Al Fayaa, Asir Artisan
The women of Asir have traditionally decorated the walls of their homes with bright motifs and abstract designs, transforming their houses and personal spaces into living art installations. Using traditional pigments and gum arabic, this tradition is known as qat. Turquoise Mountain has created and partnered with a women’s collective in Abha to create modern contexts for these paintings using trays and other canvases, as well as standalone art pieces.
